How To Attract More Readers To Your Business Blog With Pinterest - Any business that publishes blog articles, whether B2B or B2C, can use Pinterest to promote articles and drive more website traffic. Here’s how you attract more readers to your blog articles and make them highly shareable on Pinterest.
Let’s start with a quick reminder of some basic rules to successfully share your blog content on Pinterest. I covered each of these points in a little more detail in a blog post I published a while ago.
Blog Basics for Pinterest
This time, I will go into more detail about interests and keywords. It is vital to understand their importance in getting your blog pins turn up in the Pinterest Smart feed and found in search results.
The importance of Interests!
Interests on Pinterest are much more important than your number of followers. Interests are topics that users follow. By focussing on the Interests of your potential customers you are much more likely to get your content read by the right people.
Getting through to the right people starts with the naming of your boards. Do a little research to decide on board titles. Give them titles with SEO and search engines in mind. Pinterest’s pre-configured categories and Guided Search are excellent tools for this.
One tactic for good SEO is to name your boards after a sub-interest rather than a broad topic. If you select a pre-configured category from the Pinterest search box, then click a subcategory, the subcategory becomes an Interest that you can follow. Give your board the same name as the Interest. This will give you a higher ranking in Interest feeds.
If you were a fitness coach who blogs about easy ways to get fit, you could drill down to any of the sub-interests at the top of the page to see where your blog articles best fit in.
The trouble with Pinterest’s pre-configured categories is that it is not always easy to identify the right one for your products or services. One way to get around this is to add your keyword(s) to the following URL:
Here’s an example for Marketing. The category Marketing does not appear in Pinterest’s list of main interest categories. However, as shown below, you can still find sub-interests by using this method.
Find keywords with Guided Search
Another way to find the best keywords is through Pinterest’s Guided Search. Type a keyword in the Pinterest search box and see what search suggestions Pinterest comes up with. See if you can work out what qualifies the resulting pins. Do a similar search for categories and keep drilling down the list of categories you are presented with.
Try to anticipate what pinners might be looking for and include these terms in your pin descriptions. Just like a good blog post, each pin that redirects to one of your posts should have 2-3 keywords in their description. You should also use Interest titles as keywords in your pin descriptions. By optimising your pin descriptions for Pinterest’s guided search, you will increase the chances of your content turning up in search results and clicks to your website. Note that it may take several weeks for your pins to turn up in an interest feed. Be patient. If necessary, rename and re-pin to create more engagement and impressions.
Find ideas for blog content
Find out what your audience is pinning from your website and create more of that type of content. To do this go to:
pinterest.com/source/name of your website
This shows you what content people are pinning from your site. You can also check activity from your website in Pinterest Analytics (if you have a Pinterest business account). Here you can see what is happening with the pins from your website. Find out how many pins link back to your site, how many clicks those pins get, which pins get the most impressions, etc. You can verify what kind of devices are used to engage with your content and adapt your content accordingly. Talking about content… By providing more relevant pins, you can reach a wider audience and appear in the home feed of non-followers. Pinterest may display your pins in “Picked for You” on a user’s home feed. Recently, I have also seen board recommendations appear in my home feed.
