Very little specific Pinterest shopping data is available for France. According to Emilie Nguyen, Head of Partnerships at Pinterest France, the number of pinners in France has more than doubled this year and more than 1.2 million pins are saved daily in France. In March 2016, Pinterest was 6th in top 10 of platforms visited through mobile devices with 3.3m visits.

Deployment of promoted pins in Europe, started in the UK this year and are generally expected in France some time during 2017. However, even without paid advertising, e-commerce businesses can already drive significant traffic to their site with Pinterest. MADE.COM, for example, used Pinterest to increase traffic to their site by 36% and conversions by 51%.

Here are 10 tips to get you started!

Make Pinterest an integral part of your website

  • Install a prominent Pinterest Save button on your site, so that visitors can easily save an image/product directly from your website to Pinterest.
  • The images on your website should be optimized for use on Pinterest. Tall images that show the product being used work well.
  • Is your site mobile-friendly? More than 75% of Pinterest usage takes place on a mobile device!

Your Pinterest account

If you do not have a Pinterest account yet, learn how to create one in 3 easy steps here.

  • Make sure your account is a business account. Do you have the word “Analytics” showing just to the left of the search bar at the top your profile? Excellent! You have access to a great free tool, only available to business accounts, which is a mine of valuable business information providing you with insights about your Pinterest audience, your best pins and how it drives traffic to your website.
  • Apply for Product Rich Pins. They pull meta-data from your website that is then displayed on Pinterest. They get a better search rank and are more visible in Pinterest users’ feeds. Product Pins include real time pricing, availability and where to buy.
  • Your business name should be in your account and user name. This is a no-brainer, but there are many business accounts out there where one, and sometimes even both, is missing. Add 1-2 keywords after your name on Pinterest to make your profile searchable. Describe your offer. Include a call-to-action with a link to your website.

Content is king!

  • Create boards and post content that attract your target audience. Board topics should directly relate to your business. Your account needs to act as your second e-commerce site, but do not only post your own content. Mix your own how-to and product pins with content from other pinners based on the areas of interest of your potential customers.
  • Pinterest is all about quality images! Always include an attractive vertical image. Light images work better for products. Product understanding is vital: the use of the product or the problem it solves needs to be clear in one glance.
  • Keywords – Even though Pinterest is mostly visual, keywords are vital if you want people to find your products. What would a typical client search for when they are looking for your product? Use these keywords in your profile, board and pin descriptions. I cover keyword SEO in more detail in What Every Business Should Know About Pinterest SEO – Part 1.
  • Pin consistently throughout the day. People shop on e-commerce sites day and night. Pinning 10-15 times a day will start giving you good results, more is even better. Scheduling tools such as Tailwind or Buffer can help you do this.

The roll-out of Promoted pins (Pinterest ads) in non-Anglophone countries is expected to start in 2017. Want to be first in line when Pinterest Ads are rolled out in France? Then it’s time to get ready!
